Project Rachja

A Centre for Children near St. Petersburg, Russia

2006 / 2008

While the iron curtain was in place certain countgries of Eastern Europe and in Central Europe were under the political influence of the Soviet Union. When the curtain was lifted we were able to see what life was really like in those countries. Many lived in the most inhumane and apalling circumstances, children abused and abandoned. To cover and to enjoy the freedom after the soviet era was far from easy and took time and efforts, in particular for the children. They were often the victims of the political changes and today many are suffering due to the lack of financial help and assistance. Fortuantely there are organisations and individuals offering help. One of those organisatgions, "Russland Hilfe", an institution with the necessary knowladge and contacts, approached Lions District 111 N during spring 2005 for financial help.
